About the Practice
Detail:

To protect the crop, a shed is made on which the creeper is spread uniformly for the growth and development. For the control of heliothis, wastes of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) are placed uniformly over the shed, where the ivy gourd crop has grown and diffused its leaves. As a remedy, 20 kg waste of sugarcane crop are required for half an acre of land to cover. The waste of sugarcane crop are sweet in taste as it attracts other insects, pests and birds to feed on. Similarly, they look on the heliothis larvae and will consume as a first and sole preference. About 60 % crop is saved of the heliothis infestation. While applying the waste, little amount of sugarcane juice is also sprinkled on the top of shed. It is a self-developed method and has been in use from last four years.
