Babubhai Shivabhai Patel of Galiyadanti village in the Malpur taluka of Sabarkantha district in Gujarat sows two lines of maize after every four lines of groundnut in the Kharif season to conserve the moisture in the soil. Maize is harvested earlier since it matures early. The furrows made after harvesting maize are used to collect the rainwater. It is sprinkled on the adjoining four lines of the groundnut. Farmers also assume that this practice facilitates the harvesting of the groundnut. Harvesting and recycling is done in different ways according to the local situations.
