Seeds of pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum) to establish saplings of mitho limdo or curry leaf tree (Murraya koenigii). BhikhubhaiBayal from the Lakhapadar village in the Amreli district of Gujarat uses a traditionnal but innovative method while transplanting saplings of mitho limdo or curry leaf tree (Murraya koenigii) for its successful establishment. Leaves of the plant curry leaf tree are used as additive in cooking. Bayal sows a few seeds of pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum) around the saplings of curry leaf tree when it is transplated. After a few days, seeds of pearl millet gerrminate. When the pearl millet plant attains a height of 15 to 20 centimetres, Bayal cuts off them at the ground level. The roots of the cut off plants are allowed to dry. Many farmers use this practice while transplating saplings of only curry leaf tree. Curry leaf tree is a slow growing plant. Farmers spray filtrate of four to five days old buttermilk on the soil around the plant to increase growth of the plant.
