Lahanbhai Dhakalbhai Bhinsara from the Valsad district in Gujarat prepares a mixture from larvae of an insect pest and ghee (clarified butter) to control pests in the finger millet (Eleusinecoracana) crop. Bhinsara collects five larvae of an insect pest (unidentified) from the plant stalks and boils in 200 grams of ghee (clarified butter). He dilutes this mixture with 10 litres of water and sprinkles on the crop with the help of a broom. This practice is commonly carried out by the people in the hilly areas of Dharampur though local medicine men (bhagats) have specialised in this treatment.
