When corn (Zea mays) crop is affected by aphids, the whole fetid cassia (Cassia tora) plant is burnt along with leaves and branches of other plants and dry dung cake to generate a smoke. The fumes of this bonfire help control aphids in the corn crop. The quantity of cassia and other leaves required to make the bonfire depends on the size of land. Bonfires are made in four corners of the field as well as the centre to ensure the entire field is exposed to the smoke. This smoke eradicates aphid insects and the crop is protected.
