Flooding the paddy field to control leaf-eating insect pests in the paddy crop. Dilipbhai Jethiyabhai Gamit from the Mirkot village in the Uchhal taluka in Surat district in Gujarat has developed an innovative way to control leaf-eating insect pests in the paddy crop. Gamit controls the insect pests by building bunds that capture water and cause the field to flood. When flooded, two people, by walking along opposite edges of the field, draw a rope that knocks the insects off the plants and into the water where they drown Build bunds that capture water and cause the field to flood.
