Pesticide from the Akada or giant milkweed (Calotropis gigantia)plant to treat termite-infested soil. Ganpatsinh Balusinh Parmar from the Choryana Muvada village in the Savli taluka in Baroda district in Gujarat makes a pesticide from the Akada or giant milkweed (Calotropis gigantia)plant to treat termite-infested soil. Parmar soaks eight to 10 kilogrammes of giant milkweed in water for atleast 24 hours then filters the solution. This liquid is poured on the termite-infested soil. Farmers evaluate the effectiveness by placing pieces of wood at various points in the field. If the wood remains pest-free for one week then the treatment is judged effective. It is used by 25 to 35 per cent of the farmers in the area. Soak eight to 10 kilogrammes of Akada or giant milkweed (Calotropis gigantia) in water for atleast 24 hours then filter the solution. Pour this liquid on the termite-infested soil. Evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment by placing pieces of wood at various points in the field.
