About the Practice
Detail:

Making use of the watermelon fruit for irrigating the watermelon crop to overcome the shortage of water. P R Subramanian from the Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu has developed a unique way to prevent the watermelon crop from drying and the fruits to attain their full size. The watermelon crop requires sufficient soil moisture. During shortage of water, Subramanian makes holes at the bottom of a fully matured fruit to allow the inside water to ooze out. The fruit is then placed over the root portion of the plant. This method of drip irrigation saves the crop from drying and also helps other fruits to attain full size. Damaged fruits can also be used for irrigating the plants in the same manner Make holes at the bottom of a fully matured fruit to allow the inside water to ooze out. Then place the fruit over the root portion of the plant.
