Fragrance of Michelia champacatree to drive away the Rhinocerous bettle (Oryctus rhinocerous).Farmers in Karnataka control the Rhinocerous bettle (Oryctus rhinocerous) attacking the coconut plant through the use of the Michelia champaca tree. Rhinocerous bettle is a major pest in coconut plantation. To control the pest the farmers plant a few Michelia champaca trees, locally known as sampige, in between the coconut trees in the orchard. The fragrance emanating from the champaca flowers drives away the bettles. Plant a few Michelia champaca trees in between the coconut trees in the orchard.
