The mindhal tree grows in the forests of South Gujarat. Its fruits help in storage of paddy and provide effective pest control. Paddy is a major crop as well as a staple food in South Gujarat. It is stored in country bins for two to three years. The mindhal tree, which grows in the forests of South Gujarat, bears fruit in the beginning of winter. These fruits are used in the storage of paddy and prevention of pest infestation of the harvested crop. 4 or 5 fruits are placed in the storage bins at different places, and the poison in the fruits acts as an effective pest repellant. Some people also use powder of the mindhal fruit to kill the fish in ponds. The mindhal tree fruits are also tied around the wrists of brides and grooms during a weddingceremony.Four or five fruits of the mindhal tree are placed in the storage bins at various storage points.
