Cotton farmer, P Murigesan, of taluka Vadipatti in the Madurai district of Tamil Nadu, has devised a simple and natural remedy to the menace of whitefly pests in cotton crops. He prepared a liquid solution with the seeds of arali (Nerium oleander) and sprayed it over the cotton field. In this treatment, Murigesan pulverized the arali seeds, soaked them in water overnight and then filtered the liquid. He then took this filtrate, diluted it in water and sprayed it on the cotton fields. Murigesan's innovation provides 70 per cent control over whiteflies. According to Murigesan, approximately ten kilograms of arali seeds are required per acre of cotton.Per acre of cotton, ten kilograms of arali (Nerium oleander) seeds are taken and pulverized, then soaked overnight in water. The solution is then filtered. The filtrate is diluted in water and sprayed on the cotton fields, to provide 70 per cent control over whiteflies. Caution Simple, natural and effective innovation for control of whitefly menace in cotton crops. Seventy per cent pest control is achieved.
