Thyammal of Tamil Nadu has prepared a herbal pesticide from agave,neem (Azadirachta indica) yettikottai (Strychnos nux-vomica) and cakes of pongamia (Pongamia pinnata) to control the pests and treat the diseases of cotton and kanakambaram(Barleria spp). Thyammal, a farmer in village Sorakkapatti, in district Dharampuri of Tamil Nadu, has devised a novel natural remedy to control pests and diseases in cotton and kanakambaram (Barleria spp), an ornametal flowering crop. Thyammal takes the leaves of agave, neem (Azadirachta indica), Yettikottai (Strychnos nux-vomica), and cakes of pongamia (Pongamia pinnata), which he pulverizes together, and soaks the mixture in cattle urine. He then dilutes the resultant solution in water in the ratio 1:8 and sprays the cotton and kanakambaram for effective control against the pests and diseases that affect these crops. Thyammal takes the leaves of agave, neem Azadirachta indica),Yettikottai (Strychnos nux-vomica), and cakes of pongamia (Pongamia pinnata), and pulverizes these together to form a mixture which he soaks in cattle urine.
