Detail:

Pithabhai Patat of Gujarat has evolved a herbal pesticide made of chilli, neem (Azadirachta indica) and sitafal (Anona squamosa) for controlling different insect pests and treat diseases of groundnut, chilli and brinjal.Pithabhai Patat, of Bhad village in Junagadh district of Gujarat, has evolved a herbal pesticide which he tested successfully on different insect pests and diseases of groundnut, chilli and brinjal. The herbal pest and disease control suspension is prepared by combining a mixture of filtrates with water. The solution is used by spraying over crops. About 1 and 1/2 kg of leaves of sitafal (Anona squamosa) are ground and approximately 200 ml water added. The mixture is mixed well, filtered and the filtrate is kept aside.About 500 gm of the dry fruits of chilli (Capsicum annum) are soaked in water overnight and filtered. About 1Kg of neem Azadirachta indica fruits are crushed and soaked in two litres of water overnight, and the extract is filtered. The sitafal, neem, and chilli filtrates are added to ten litres of water and mixed thoroughly to use as a herbal pesticide.Approximately 35 to 40 lit of the pesticide mixture is required to spray 0.16 ha of land.According to Patat, spraying the mixture completely controlled aphids in groundnut. On brinjal crops, he achieved a 50% result with the herbal mixture, and on the chilli crops, about 90% control over the insect pests.Patat also found his innovation could control leaf curl disease. This home-made preparation helped Patat save Rs. 800, which he would have otherwise had to spend on chemical pesticides. . .
