Maliyabhai Rathwa of the Baroda district of Gujarat uses alum and castor (Ricinus communis) to control the attack of pests in chilli (Capsicum annuum) and brinjal (Solanum melongena)For the last 19 years Maliyabhai Rathwa of the Baroda district of Gujarat has been using alum and castor (Ricinus communis) to control the menace of pests in chilli (Capsicum annuum) and brinjal (Solanum melongena). These white pests resemble ants and have a life span of about 15 days The method of preparing and using the mixture is very simple. Rathwa mixes around 60 kg of empty castor shells and 2kg alum. He then spreads the mixture while ploughing on the land before he sows the seeds of the chilli and brinjal.
