White grub is a major pest of the sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) and groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) crops. It remains in the soil and damages the underground part of the crop. To manage this pest, the cake of mahua (Madhuca indica) is mixed with soil at the time of soilbed preparation before sowing. Deep ploughing and turning the soil distributes the cake uniformly in the soil. Mahua cake at the rate of 30 to 40 kg per acre of land helps keep the white grub number under check. The practice is reported to control 90% of the pest.
