Salinity of soil is a major problem for agricultural productivity. Salinity leads to hardening of soil which becomes unproductive. This soil needs to be reclaimed for increasing the acreage. To reclaim this soil, for every acre of soil, three to four cartfuls of "dhaadia" plant are cut into pieces and then spread evenly on the saline soil. These are allowed to dry on the soil for two months. In the third month, these pieces are buried deep in the soil by ploughing and turning the soil. The pieces are allowed to decompose in the soil without disturbing it for one month. This process is adopted twice during the year ( i;e, in the winter and during the monsoon). This process reduces salinity of soil and revives its fertility. "Dhaadia" plant grows in the gutters, uncultivated lands, near the banks of rivers or in grazing land. Seeds of this plant are in the form of a throny bunch. Leaves are similar to bitter gourd leaves. This is a traditional practice used by many people of the Panchmahals area.
