Flower drop is common problem at the time of flowering of the cotton plant, the flowers fall down, resulting in reduction of total number of cotton balls. To prevent the flower drop, 500 g of the seeds of "padavela” are boiled in 10 L of water. Filter the decoction and spray over an area of one acre. The flower drop is stopped to the extent of 40 percent.

"Powder one kg tobacco (Nicotianatabacum) and soak it in three litres water in an earthen pot for three days. Then filter it and add 500 ml neem oil. Mix this with soap. Dilute with water and spray the mixture on the cotton crop. It is sufficient for one acre. The results, i.e., good flower and fruit formation and reduced flower dropping, are apparent within a week.”
