Process:Improving the quality of carrot and increasing the yield by altering the carrot planting method and making use of small plots instead of large ones. UmedbhaiKeshubhai Patel from the Mehsana district of Gujarat altered the carrot planting method for increasing the yield of the crop. Generally, in North Gujarat, the size of the plots is large which is 20 to 30 inch x 6 to 8 inch. According to Patel root crops like carrot require soft and loose soil and large plots retain larger quantity of water that compacts and hardens the soil. So he experimented with deep tillage in small plots of, 10 inch x 3 inch, in his field based on its slope and ensured that the soil did not harden due to irrigation. Also, the greater the number of bunds created in the field made the soil soft and conducive to root growth. Small plots also helped in reducing the requirement of irrigation water. Patel‟s production went up from 2500 to 3000 kilogrammes per hectare to 3500 to 4000 kg per hectare because of this practice. The quality of carrots also improved with the increase in girth and length. Do deep tillage in small plots of, 10 inch x 3 inch, in the field based on its slope and ensure that the soil does not harden due to irrigation. Also, create more number of bunds in the field to make the soil soft and conducive to root growth.
