Applying grease saves the cotton crop from white fly attacks. Some farmers from Matarvania village of the Junagadh district in Gujarat apply grease on cotton plants with a cloth and save the cotton crop from white fly attacks. This idea may be considered primitive or a modified version of the sticky trap that is generally used for trapping insects like aphids in other crops. Some farmers add 30 gm of tobacco powder for every 15 L of insecticide to control attack of aphids. They later found that the aphids began attacking the tobacco crop itself. This treatment has become ineffective nowadays as aphids have developed a resistance to nicotine, just as mosquitoes have developed resistance to DDT. Apply grease on cotton plants with a cloth.
