Kodarji Kaluji Pagi from the Kheda district in Gujarat suggests two ways to protect bajri or Pearl millet from kansia or Blister Beetle. Blister Beetle attacks the ear head of Pearl millet. For controlling these insects, Pagi adds vermillion (Mercuric oxide) to 50 to100 grams of liquor till it becomes scarlet in colour. Later, he walks the field in the direction of wind, catches Blister Beetle, dips them in the mixture and then allows them to fly away. Seeing the coloured insects with smell of liquor, the rest of the Blister Beetle flee the crop. He also uses the leaves of a grass known as kamdo. He crushes the leaves with hands as he moves around the farm in the direction of wind. Blister Beetle insects fly away due to strong smell of the crushed leaves.
