Dahyabhai Ramsanghbhai Rabari from the May village in the Bhachan taluka in Kutch district of Gujarat reclaims salt affected field with an operation called Pana-godh<. Rabari prepares the field bunds with the help of sand, clay and stones surrounding the entire salt affected field. He steers the monsoon streams towards that field by preparing extra lateral canal in the adjacent elevated area. However, this adjoining area must be free from salt crust. Then he allows the harvested rain water to drain and evaporate naturally. It is believed that salts are leached down with the rain. Rabari digs the reclaimed salt with the help of special kudali a spade having long blade) before using it for cultivation. This operation is locally known as Pana-godh.
