The plant of Ganda Bawal or Epinard (Prosopis juliflora) to absorb salt from the soil. Navaji Bhikhaji Harijan from the Moda village in the Rapar taluka in Kutch district in Gujarat grows Ganda Bawal or Epinard(Prosopis juliflora)to reclaim salt affected soil. This is a long term method utilized in the severely salt affected areas. Harijan grows the Epinard plant in the salt affected soil for four to six years. Then he cuts away the trees and pulls out the roots after four to six years. The field is then cleared and ploughed deeply with the help of bullocks. Sometimes farmers incorporate gypsum or chirodi in the field before cultivation of any crop in it. Alternatively some farmers grow gram (Cicer arietinum) and Okra (Abelmoschus esculentum)in the salt affected soil of Sabarkantha district. Grow the Ganda Bawal or Epinard (Prosopis juliflora)plant in the salt affected soil for four to six years. Then cut away the trees and pull out the roots after four to six years. Clear the field and plough deeply with the help of bullocks. Sometimes gypsum or chirodi can be incorporated in the field before cultivation of any crop in it. Alternatively one can also grow gram (Cicer arietinum) and Okra (Abelmoschus esculentum).
