It will reduce the shortage of electricity during snowfall
There is a very big problem regarding the frequent power cuts faced by people of Chenab valley and other parts of Kashmir of J&K.In winter season, due to heavy snow fall, the wires carrying electric current or the poles supporting them usually get damaged at several places. This causes people to suffer the shortage of main supply electricity for few weeks or sometimes even for few months. The repair of electric connectivity in such mountainous places gets very difficult and takes time for electricians to resolve this problem. Due to non-availability of electricity for weeks, people are not even able to charge their mobile phones and other electronic devices. In such cases, the most common alternate used by people of our region is the use of solar panels for getting electricity. The problem even continues because the solar panels do not work well in cloudy days due to lack of intensity of light. Moreover, these are also not available to all the people easily. In order to solve this problem, we have come up with an idea of producing electricity in winter that could be efficient, cheap, easy to use, and available to all. In winter season, when power cuts are frequent, or when there's noelectricity for several weeks or months, than for this period the only thing in abundance and available to all the people of our region is snow. On the other hand, most of the regional people in our area use firewood in traditional mud stove called as DAAN (in Kashmiri) for producing warmth. It is mainly the combination of these two (snow and wood fire) which would act as a fuel for producing electricity in our SNOW ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION SYSTEM. Besides, we need a thermoelectric plates TEG's which is a small device whose principle is based on SEEBACK effect and is used to produce electricity on account of temperature difference on its two sides. We need a long cylindrical pipe with a sufficiently broad cross section, and a funnel in addition. The idea is to connect the thermoelectric plates (we can use 7 or more in series connection) at the bottom side of a cylindrical pipe and then take it down through the chimney (present at the roof of houses connecting with traditional stove) such that its bottom end where thermoelectric plates are located, remains above the flame of the traditional stove. The funnel with a sufficiently broad cross section is to be connected at the top open end of the cylindrical pipe. During snow fall, the snow could be gathered with this funnel and accordingly it will fill the pipe as well. The thermoelectric device present at the bottom is to be connected as such that it's one side is in direct contact with ice and the other side in direct contact with flame. This will create a huge temperature difference in between the two sides of that device and accordingly the electricity would be produced by the SEEBACK effect. Now, that device is to be further attached with a battery so that it can store charge for future use. Electricity produced will be sufficient to glow atleast one or two bulbs and charge electronic devices like mobile phones which would be a great sigh of relief to the people in harsh winters. The battery would keep on charging as long as there is temp difference maintained on the two side of the thermoelectric plates. It is obvious that after some time the ice present in pipe would melt and heat up thereby reducing the temperature difference also. We can prevent this if we use a non-heat conducting (Adiabatic) Material for making our cylindrical pipe. This would not allow heat to cross through the pipe in excess and hence the snow in that pipe could be retained for a comparably longer time. As no material can be ideally non heat conducting, so after some time, maybe few hours or more, the ice will melt down and water will start getting warm. We don't need to waste this as well. We can connect that cylindrical ice containing pipe with a small tube through which the warm water could be taken out and gathered in any water container. This way, we can get warm water as residue which in turn is of great use for our people during winter. In this way, we can overcome this difficulty of electrical shortage faced by people during winter season in our area. This can be used by anyone facing the same difficulty as well.
