About the Practice
Problem Statement:

need of low cost adhesives , low cost ball mill

Detail:

Chemical ball mills are quite costly because of glass lining must be provided to the mild steel to protect it from the acid erosion. As such even a 35 kg Chemical ball mill cost above Rs.1,50,000 to manufacture. Sri.A.N. Manoharan who is engaged in manufacturing adhesives needed a chemical ball mill to process his raw materials to produce liquid or paste gum. On enquiring he found that a ball mill with 200 kg. capacity would cost around Rs.3/5 lakhs. Unable to afford such a large amount for single machine he decided to construct his own ball mill. As he learned that chemicals dont erode PVC carboy he purchased a 200 kg carboy drum from the market. Instead of steel nalls he selected glass beads, which is again acid resistant material to do the milling inside the drum. Then he made suitable arrangements to rotate the drum over a steel structure. Power drive is provdied by a single phase 1/4 H.P. motor. He has been using this chemical ball mill for over 5 years satisfactorily. The cost of construction is around Rs.5000 only. But the same capacity original chemical ball mill will cost around Rs.3,50,000 .
