Low cost weeder for cotton plant

Single Bullock Drawn Weeder Sri. Dhanaraj has developed a weeder, which can be drawn by a single bullock. Usually one pair of bullock is engaged in ploughing or weeding operations by farmers. Now a days due to labour problem in weeding, the farmer has experimented a design over the last 10 years. This has resulted in designing new weeder by using a single bullock. Method of Operation 1. Single bullock is sufficient for weeding operations. 2. It covers 2 acres of land in a day for weeding crops like tapioca, cotton etc. 3. It requires 2 labourers: one labour for handling the weeding machine and another for going along with the bullock to guide the animal. 4. This weeder can be used when the crop attains upto 3 feet height. 5. It completely uproots the weed and ensures no regrowth / weeding in next 3 months or so. 6. It costs Rs.300 to design the weeder. By seeing the innovation 4 farmers have already adopted. One of the adopted farmers Sri. Sengottaiyan in Moonru Savidi Thottam village has been using this weeder for the past 7 years. He feels that it is good in saving the labour cost for weeding in his tapioca crop. However many farmers are not coming forward to adopt this model due to maintenance of bullocks is not practised by farmers nowadays.
