About the Practice
Problem Statement:

• It increases the life of refrigerator. • It recovers more than 50% of heat which was being wasted. • Use of fossil fuel is reduced significant level in households as water is being heated up for multiple times.


Detail:

This prototype combines a water heater along with refrigerator. This modified Domestic refrigerator has two interesting novel functions. The waste heat of compressor is used to heat water, through a heat exchanger and in the process of removing heat, the life of compressor is extended and its efficiency goes up. Thus, the power consumption also goes down because compressor has to work less.The lukewarm water thus generated can be used cleaning kitchen utensils, washing clothes, bathing etc. Through this modified design daily 100 litres of lukewarm hot water can be produced while the cooling capacity of the refrigerator is increased by about 20 percent. This may also reduce the consumption of electricity.

Link: • Refrigerator removes the heat from its cabinet and transfers it to the surrounding atmosphere, Air being poor conductor of heat takes time to transfer and this causes damage to the parts of refrigerator for being heated up for longer duration. While adding water heater to it transfer heat faster and reduces the damage to the refrigerator. • It harnesses the waste heat energy and uses it to heat up the water. • Luke warm water can be continuously obtained as refrigerator works 24/7 days.
