About the Practice
Problem Statement:

In the health and wellness monitoring environments, personalized healthcare information gathering and sharing are done by IoT in a significant manner. A recent survey says, the last few decades have witnessed a steady increase in life expectancy in many parts of the world which increase the count of the elderly people. One of the reports from United Nations says that there will be 2 billion (22% of the world population) older people by 2050. In which nearly 89% of the aged people will be left alone in the home. And also the survey says that 80% of the old people who are more than 65 are suffering from at least one of chronic disease. They feel more difficult in taking care of them. And it became a serious social challenge at the moment. The improvement in the information and communication technologies helps to find innovative healthcare solutions. It also greatly improves aged peoples quality of life. The body sensor network (BSN) technology acts as the most imperative technologies used in the IoT-based modern healthcare system. Since it is used to monitor the human body functions because it has a collection of low-power and lightweight wireless sensor nodes. All these BSN nodes are used to collect information with high accuracy. Also, it provides high-security mechanisms from the malicious interaction.

Detail:

Internet of Things is a one which is emerged by advancement in the information and communication technology. And it is a new technology that connects the things from various domains through the internet and gives more convenience to several sectors. In the medical field, the IoT play an important role to monitor the patient’s health from a remote location and healthcare is an essential part of the life. This paper proposes how to design and monitor the elder’s health from a remote location. The parameters that are measured by elder include temperature, glucose level, blood, pulse rate. The glucose level is measured by a non-invasive method. This parameter values are displayed in the LCD screen for elder reference and these values are uploaded to cloud frequently for future reference. Each parameter is assigned to a threshold value if it exceeds the threshold value, a buzzer and LED intimation is given to the elder and text message was sent to the caretaker person and to the nearby hospital in case of emergency. And also the elder location is shared with that person. For that GSM and GPS modules are used to track the location of the elder.

Practice Details

Link: Recent works on utilizing cloud technologies for data storage were presented and showed that cloud is the best means for storing and organizing data in healthcare. In case of emergency of a elder person's health the threshold value is maintained for the parameters being measured and SMS alerts are send to his/her caretaker. The records which was stored in the cloud can be analyzed using matlab by the doctor. The new one introduced in this assist device is non-invasive method to measuring the blood glucose level.
