About the Practice
Problem Statement:

The mustard seeds are obtained from the mustard plant. There are separate machine available for the harvesting, processing, grading, etc... We propose a model which does  harvesting,  Twisting process to remove the seeds from the pod,  Grading of the processed seeds are done using the different sized sieve-plate,  The mustard seeds are removed effectively from the pod.  Removes the dust particles using a single machine. Hence it is cost efficient. The efficiency of the machine is increased. Approximately 80% of the yield can be processed. The Expenditure spent on the existing machine is very high and affects the financial status of the farmers. Man power required is less. The time required for processing the mustard seeds are reduced.

Detail:

Mustard seeds are small, round seeds measuring about 1 mm in diameter which is encased inside a fruit pod. They are highly priced culinary oil-seeds which returns higher yields. Mustard grows in temperate regions. India is the third largest mustard producer in the world with 12-13 per cent of world’s production. Nearly 30.7% of the mustard crop fits in the rainfed cropping due to its lower water requirement. Mustard is one of the major sources of income to the marginal and small farmers in rainfed areas of our country. Substantial import substitution can be achieved by increasing the domestic productivity. The productivity level of mustard seeds are low and advancements in the crop improvement can be achieved through research findings and improved technologies. This project is based on harvesting, processing and grading of the mustard seeds from the farm land. The mustard plants are harvested with the help of strippers and the seeds are removed from the fruit pod by twisting process. The collected seeds are made free from the dust particles by magnetic destoner. The grading of the seeds is done with the different sized sieve plates. At the end of the harvesting, the graded mustard seeds can be collected from the tray.

Practice Details

Link: Using MSP machine, harvesting, processing and grading is done in a machine with less time consumption in the farmland. The raw material obtained can be marketed as per the grading. Instead of using a separate machine, the processing of mustard seeds is carried out using MSP. In this they can collect the seeds when the message is reached to the farmer. The proposed model is compact in size and consumes less power for efficient operation and automatic.
